Pair Up or Your Subject: Oil Painting Class with Marilyn Eger - July 5 & July 19 2023

Description:

I will provide instruction on a variety of ways to get your drawing onto the canvas. I will teach composition and color theory as it applies to each student’s painting.

You may pick one of the Pair Up images from the Lodi Community Art Center's website or bring one of your own photos. Please see Required Materials section below for more details and instructions.

Schedule:

Wednesday, July 5 and Wednesday, July 19

9 AM - 12P M Each Day

Class Audience:

High school aged (15 years old) to Adult

Class Experience Level: All experience levels

Class Size: Min: 6, Max: 8

Workshop Fees:

Payment due in advance of the class.

One week notice required for refund to be issued.

  • Members: $100 for both sessions

  • Non-Members: $145 for both sessions

  • If a student does not have oil paints there will be an additional $25.00 material fee but the student must still provide their own canvas.

Required Supplies:

Oil Paints:

Alizarin Crimson*

Burnt Sienna*

Cadmium Red Light

Cadmium Yellow

Naples Yellow*

Thalo Blue*

Titanium White*

Ultramarine Blue*

Viridian Green*

Yellow Ochre

*colors are a must.

Brushes:

Filbert Brushes#1, #2, #3, & #6.  Marilyn uses Utrecht Series 209.

Also Utrecht 239-B Mixed Synthetic #4 is excellent for softening edges

(If you already have filberts, bring what you have.)

Canvas size of your choice:

Be sure the photo is the same size as the canvas dimensions and print both a color and black and white version. I recommend an 8" X 10" however you may paint any size you like.

Please be sure to tone your canvas with a warm color ahead of time so it’s dry in time for the first class.

Subject is your photo, your choice or a Pair Up Photo (Examples here)

You will use carbon paper to transfer your image to your canvas. Marilyn will coach and assist with color mixing, composition & drawing.

Turpenoid

Metal cup for turpenoid

Rags or paper towels

Palette, large, your choice                   

French Easel or bring what you have. If you sit the art center has easels to use.
